StormAngler on the International Fly Fishing Circuit

Recently one of our StormAnglers went to Chris Ogborne in North Cornwall. Chris is world renowned in the field of competitive fishing. He represented and captained his country on the international fly fishing circuit for over 20 years and has been English National and European fly fishing champion several times.

Chris offers fishing tuition and guide services in Cornwall, and needed a top class, sturdy boat to ensure the safety and comfort of his passengers. Chris chose the StormAngler, who will be named ‘Storm Petrel,’ and she’ll be used for taking parties out for bass and fly fishing. See Chris’s website for further information at

MonoStorm Tope Hunter

The latest edition to our MonoStorm range will be the new MonoStorm Tope Hunter. Because she will be a shorter length of 5m, (as opposed to our previous 5.9 or 6.3m MonoStorms,) she will be distinctive, dynamic, easily manoeuvrable, and economical to run.

Like all StormCats boats, stability, buoyancy and safety are top priorities for the hull structure, and when complete she will be able to take a maximum 40hp outboard and have a top speed of 27 knots. As her name suggests, she is built for the serious angler, and incorporates a high front console to maximise deck space for fishing.

The 5m Tope Hunter took her first seatrials on Valentines day at Lagavulin. She scored ten out of ten, and her performance even exceeded our already high expectations of this innovative new design. Fitted with a 40hp Yamaha, she planes at 12 knots and reaches 28 knots with two men on board, which is an unusually high speed for such an economical engine. She has fantastic handling and is extremely stable. Watch this space for full details, photos and film of her imminent official launch.

New MonoStorm 5.9

StormCats most recent model this year, a stunning MonoStorm 5.9, was launched in early December. The boat was designed and built by the youngest member of the StormCats team, Arthur Wilson. Arthur has worked for the company for four years, and has drawn on his experience to create his own personalised boat with some unique features. Finished in jet black, the paint includes blue and silver flecks which make the boat look even more stunning when the sun shines. Unlike other MonoStorm 5.9s, this boat has a double console with a moulded back rest, and the floor is finished with a unique custom designed floor pattern, which makes the boat even more distinctive.

Arthur’s choice of outboard was a 70hp TLDI Tohatsu, which is proven to be one of the most fuel efficient outboards on the market, and is ideally suited to this type of boat. She has a top speed of 32 knots, and comfortably cruises at a speed of 24 knots.
