It was the need to find a sturdy, safe boat for his commercial Dive business which led StormCats of Islay Managing Director Gus Newman to design and build his very first boat – a Commercial Catamaran. Built from decades of experience on the water, the first Dive Charter ‘Braveheart’ set the standards to which all StormCats of Islay boats now adhere to: stronger than anything else on the market, highly durable, with reinforced hulls and keels, and with safety as a priority. Braveheart was built to excel even in the wildest weather conditions, and she did. All our catamarans are built to Lloyds special service class rules, and for charter boats, to the MCA code of practice to carry 12 passengers and 2 crew up to 60 miles offshore.

The MonoStorm, a versatile leisure boat with a commercial strength hull, is renowned for its outstanding sea keeping capabilities, low maintenance and high durability. Choose from four popular designs specifically geared to sport, angling, touring and cruising, or tell us your own ideas and we can custom build to your requirements - no two MonoStorms need be the same.
All our MonoStorm hulls are built with a heavy lay up of woven rovings, Lloyds approved resins and gel coats. We increase the lay up on the keel and hull ring by an extra 30%, and to provide further backbone strength we glass a laminated herringbone Stringer System into the hull. A collision bulkhead is also built into the bow, ensuring safety if struck.
Our spray rails throw water clear off the boat, ensuring a dry ride in heavy weather, and our three inch keels limit drifting and provide superior grip in the water, especially when turning. Keels are built from solid fibreglass, which resists holing and protects the hull.
